Make a ‘healthier Earth’ with hE detergents and appliances

High efficiency washers (or hE) may be the new(er) kids on the block, but they’ve definitely made an impact on the washer and laundry detergent markets. It’s no wonder sales continue to rise, as these products offer energy saving benefits to the consumer and the environment.

Traditional vs hE Washers

The traditional top load washer uses an ‘agitator’ to pull the clothes through the wash and disperse detergents, filling with water to both wash and rinse the clothing.

hE washers contain a tumbler that rotates clockwise and counter-clockwise, lifting dirt as the clothes turn in the water. A tumbler washing system uses 20-60% less water than traditional washers and is a gentler, more effective way to clean our clothes.  Metro Karges has many options such as a Maytag top load or Whirlpool or Frigidaire HE front load washer, depending on personal preference and washing needs.

Regular vs hE detergents

One of the biggest differences between hE and regular detergents is in the suds. Traditional detergents work best in agitating machines with large volumes of water that help create bubbles to clean and remove odors from clothing.

hE detergents are more concentrated and create fewer suds than regular soap and as a result, an hE machine will require far less detergent, typically only about 3-4 tablespoons in comparison to ¼ to ½ cup used in regular washers. hE detergent is more quickly dispersed and does not redeposit on cleanly washed clothing.

For best cleaning performance and to prevent damage to the tumbler, always use hE detergent for your hE washer.
